This image came into being from two sources of inspiration. One is the many conversations I have shared with Stephanie over the phone, on the balcony, and in the front yard of my apartment building since we've been avoiding physical proximity. Sometimes a voice in your ear or a person who hears you can make you feel less alone.
Secondly, Alex's Uncle Peter teaches grade 5 and was expressing his frustration recently (in the last 6 months anyways) that all of the depictions of tin-can telephones show a loose string WHICH DOESN'T WORK. I told him I'd make an illustration for him to use that showed to correct tension for carrying sound waves. I don't know if he ever expected me to carry through with it!
